A Leveza Dos Sonhos

A warm-hearted and caring friend, mother, grandmother and sister, whom everybody knew as a gentle, kind and most generous person, Lúcia Pedro was a woman of great artistic talents in many fields, including music, traditional art, and photography. In the last 10 years she had developed a special passion for the art of ‘writing with light’. She found attraction for instance in street photography - but one of her main interests certainly was abstract photography.

This exhibition focuses mainly on this facet of her artistic work. We can imagine her recreative eye behind the images - an eye attentive to details, which it re-dimensions, rereads and enhances, through an interplay of form, light, focus, and scale, producing abstract pictures that tell stories or simply offer themselves as delicate, nostalgic, painful, or magical mysteries, a celebration of nature, plastic possibilities of expressing the experience of being in the world.

The idea of presenting a selection of her photographs in this very fine gallery was, after much insistence from all of us that she should show her work, Lúcia’s very one. She had even started to make arrangements for this, prompted by the inspiring courage of her zest for living, against all odds. But so very sadly she was taken away from us by the terrible disease before the exhibition could take place. We - friends and family - have prepared this show as a late present for our much missed Lúcia. We can only hope that this selection of her works and the whole presentation are close to what she had in mind.
